Carl Gray - Ceramics
Functional, stoneware, wood-fired Ceramics.
Most of Carl Gray's ceramics are ‘thrown’ on a potter’s wheel and sometimes then altered. Form, which should feel balanced, is most important. Contrasts, including rough and smooth or round and angular, are of interest to him and often feature in his work. Decoration is minimal - a few marks made when the clay is wet to let glazes pool and break or allow flames and ash to 'paint' the pot.
As a potter, the way that Carl Gray works is based upon the philosophy of coexisting with nature in a sustainable way and in so doing having the least possible negative impact upon the environment.
